Art 8: Parents Night

The eighth graders are working on a project that combines scanography (photography with scanners) and scratchboard art. I had two computers set up, one with the scanner hooked up and one with examples. Students and parents paired up to make scanographs together. Then I explained to parents about the difference between traditional drawing, where one draws with black on white paper. The scratchboard art forces you to think differently. Instead of drawing you are highlighting. Students will take away the black surface to reveal the white below.

An example of one of the scans – I lay a clear sheet of plastic onto the scanner bed to protect it.

The second computer showed the examples of student work from the past week.
