Kandinsky Overlapping Shapes

The first day of the project we looked at shapes and identified them. We talked about what it means to overlap, or when a shape touched another shape. The students traced 11 shapes onto their page and made sure that they were touching.

We looked at the work of Kandinsky. The students were inspired by the simple shapes and excited to identify items within his paintings (it’s a boat, it’s a man). They then outlined the shapes with black oil pastel. The final step was to watercolor into the shapes creating a resist.
